#OpCharlieHebdo was a viral marketing hoax created by Rantic. The site was orchestrated in a form of a countdown clock on January 8th, 2015 at around 7 pm. The site was first covered by Metronews and received a wide variety of worldwide news coverage.

Within about 3 days after the start of the countdown, the website redirected to a Rantic online campaign called “#IAmHuman“. The campaign aimed to help increase Charlie Hebdo magazine subscriptions and raise awareness on freedom of speech. A video was also used in the viral campaign to help raise awareness.

The viral campaign was mostly covered by French, Dutch, Belgium and Italian news outlets. This was also one of the few campaigns where it had aired on a major television channel. A French TV special on #OpCharlieHebdo was aired on January 17th, 2014 on ‘Le Tube’, a show on Canal+.
